Family Minecraft Madness
Hey everybody... we're making some changes to our Minecrafting to improve the experience. We've setup a private server to host both Wednesday World and Weekly World. Both servers should be running all the time, but we only play Wednesday World together on Wednesday starting at 5pm pacific.
You will need to make some changes to be able to connect to the new server.
-
Mobile Devices - Android & iOS
Initial Setup
-
- Open Minecraft app
- Click "Play" button
- Select "Servers" tab
- Scroll to the bottom of the servers list and click "Add Server" button
- For "Server Name" put anything you like... its to help you remember what server this is
- For "Server Address" put linqable.net
- For "Port" the default value of 19132 should be fine.
- Click the "Save" button. You will be taken back to the server list and your new server will be at the bottom of the list.
How to connect
-
- Open Minecraft app
- Click "Play" button
- Select "Servers" tab
- Scroll to the bottom of the servers list and click on the server you created earlier... do not click on the pencil button next to it.
- On the right side of the screen click the "Join Server" button.
-
Computers
I believe the process is largely similar to Android & iOS deveices above, but I don't have Minecraft on my PC and can't confirm... maybe Michael can provide clear instructions once he figures it out.

Consoles: Xbox, PS4, Switch
Mojang has disabled adding servers to consoles. By default you can only play on their limited set of "Featured Servers"
However, there are 2 possible workarounds for this that I have setup for console users.
If you have a PC on the same network...
- Download this app for your PC (
Windows
Mac
Linux
)
This will start a small Minecraft server on your PC that we'll connect to on your console.
- For mac users only: Open Terminal and run the following commands (note that these commands assume that you downloaded the file to your user's Downloads directory and that the filename is `transfer-darwin-amd64`. If either of this is different adjust the commands accordingly.):
xattr -c ~/Downloads/transfer-darwin-amd64
chmod +x ~/Downloads/transfer-darwin-amd64
Once you have done these commands you should be able to start the app. This is a console app... there is no UI. Opening it should open a new terminal window.
-
Run the application. You should see a console window with some text that looks something like this:
[16:30:51] [Server thread/INFO]: Starting server...
[16:30:51] [Server thread/DEBUG]: Loading world...
[16:30:51] [Server thread/DEBUG]: Loaded world 'World'.
[16:30:51] [Server thread/INFO]: Server running on [::]:19132.
[16:30:51] [Server thread/INFO]: Done loading server in 124ms
- Open Minecraft on your console
- Click "Play" button
- Select "Friends" tab
- At the bottom under "LAN Games" you should see "Transfer To External Server". Select this option.
- After you've run the app once you can just start the app from step 3 in the future. However, if you have to download a newer version you will have to perform all theses steps over again.
If you don't have a PC on the same network that you can use...
- On your console you want to set your DNS server to 104.225.218.32. On an xbox you can do so like this:
- Click the center "Xbox Logo" button on your contorller.
- Use the Left & Right Bumper buttons to get to the "Profile & System" tab.
- Select "Settings" item.
- On the "General" tab select "Network settings"
- Select "Advanced Settings"
- Select "DNS settings"
- Select "Manual"
- For "Primary IPv4 DNS" put each number in it's own box in order: 104 225 218 32
- Press the Start button on your controller (the one that looks like 3 horizontal lines)
- Do the last 2 steps again for "Secondary IPv4 DNS"
- Back out to the home screen
- Hold in the "Xbox Logo" button on your contorller until you get a message that says " What do you want to do?"
- Choose "Restart console"
- Once this is setup you should be able to join the server like this:
- Open Minecraft
- Click "Play" button
- Select "Servers" tab
- Look for a server that has the description "Transfer To External Server" -- ideally all the servers should say this but it is somewhat inconsistent for some reason.
- Select one of those servers, then select "Join Server" in the panel on the right side.
- IF none of the servers show this option... press "B" on your controller to go back to the main menu... wait 10-15 seconds and then continue from step 2
Once connected to the new server you should immediately be presented with a "Select Server" menu. Simply select the world you want to play on and you should be transfered to the appropriate server.
